What Are The Stakes?

We talk about elections with extreme clarity.

  • Bad policy, and the people who write and pass it, has a body count. And for Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people, that body count is disproportionately high.

  • Policy becomes the guardrails around which families can survive, thrive, and/or feel supported. We never reduce policy to simply paperwork or a vote.

  • The reverse is also true, and we say that just as emphatically. Good policy, and the people who fight for and pass it, can counteract that harm and be proactive with the protections against future harm.

With urgency and nuance, we treat elections as one of the places where the fights over material conditions can actually be decided.

Our Campaign

Vote Like a Black Feminist (VLaBF) is a Black Feminist Future (BFF) campaign that centers the needs and ideas of Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people in the electoral space. The goal is to build our power in elections and create new democratic opportunities.

The VLaBF Voter Guide is a tool for Black feminists like you to engage in the political process. This guide will provide BFF members and other Black feminists with everything they need to show up and vote. Let’s keep it real. Voting alone won't bring Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people closer to freedom. However, Black Feminist Future considers engaging with the electoral process a tool that can provide more access to resources that meet our needs for safety and support.

Voter guides can be a valuable tool for sharing information and making elections more accessible to the public, while informing voters on a variety of topics, including candidate profiles, candidate endorsements, and key issue areas they should vote for or be aware of.

The Vote Like a Black Feminist Voter Guide highlights the key issues that Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people are focusing on this election cycle, considering the current political conditions and their impact on our vote.
